Astigmatism is an eye defect wherein there is a malformed curvature of the eye lens. Ordinarily, the means to correct astigmatism is to have glasses. In our family with 7 members, a couple of us are ill with astigmatism, my brother and I. My brother’s astigmatism was discovered before mine. And since he already ailing with altered eyesight, purporting his vision is not 20/20 anymore- it just made the situation worse. And since Laser Vision Corection was not that commonly offered and well-known, our parents brought him to an Ophthalmologist and then directed to wear curative glasses. He had to wear glasses continually except when he was washing his face or sleeping. A year or two had gone by and yet his vision did not get better and he still suffered astigmatism. And since the disorder is not astigmatism only, his eye grade adjusted over time and he had to switch his eyeglasses. Unfortunately, the maintenance is quite expensive and is continual.
As for me, I have a 20/20 and 20/25 eyesight and is positive for astigmatism too. Like my brother, I had to wear remedial eyeglasses too and since I was so not in the habit of wearing something for my eye, I often don’t wear it and more often lose it. It was very difficult and irritating, I thought.
It was in the late months of 2008 that Lasik laser eye surgery was suggested by a family friend. He said it was only a minor surgical treatment and that the recovery from it was fast and that he was able to see its consequence and the covalescence it has done to his sister. We were first cynical and thought it was very invasive but then my brother was very fervent to try it. He was 22 when he went through the operation.
It was his left eye that underwent surgery at first. My brother said there was no hurting in any way. He only experienced some sort of heaviness to his eye and not surprisingly the dryness; but there is no considerable pain, per se. The whole process took only 14 minutes and even after that, my brother did not complain of any hurting or halos or blurring of eyesight at all. He was ordered to take in antibiotics and eye drops to help maintain the wetness of the healing eye. My brother was directed to wear an eye shield particulary at night, avoid gobbling seafood for at least two weeks and avoid things that might injure the operated eye. Only a few days after the surgery, my brother’s eyesight got better and he doesn’t need to wear his eyeglasses anymore. A week after, his left eye eyesight were 20/15- almost standard.
LASIK Laser eye surgical treatment is an outstanding alternative for my brother and for those who have eye troubles. It made achievable the things we thought were without a solution. My brother, until now, doesn’t have to wear glasses. It did not only cure his astigmatism but also enhanced his vision all-in-all. With a bit of luck, at the end of this year, he will have the surgery for his right eye and we are looking forward to another admirable result. We highly advocate Lasik Eye Surgery. The earliest application of lasers in the every day existence of the general population was the store barcode scanner. It was pioneered in 1974. The laserdisc player was introduced in 1978. It was the first successful consumer merchandise to incorporate a laser, despite the fact the compact disc player was the first laser-equipped piece of equipment to grow to be truly common in consumers’ homes since 1982, followed shortly by laser printers. When lasers were invented in 1960, they were called “a solution looking for a problem”. Since then, they have become ever-present, finding function in thousands of exceedingly disparate uses in a lot of aspects of modern society, including consumer electronics, information technology, science, industry, law enforcement, entertainment, military and medicine.
Laser is an apparatus that ejects light known as electromagnetic radiation through a process called stimulated emission. Laser light is typically spatially consistent, which means that the light either is emitted in a fine, low-divergence beam, or can be transformed into one with the help of optical apparatus such as lenses. In general, even light typically indicates the source produces light waves that are in step. They have the equal frequencies and identical phase. The coherence of standard laser emission is a usual quality of lasers. Most other light sources emit incoherent light, which has a point that varies erratically with time and position. By and large, lasers are thought of as giving off light with a narrow wavelength spectrum or monochromatic light. This is not accurate of all lasers, nevertheless, some give off light with a broad spectrum, while others discharge light at many distinct wavelengths all together.
Laser in situ keratomileusis, LASIK, recognized name in refractive eye surgical treatment, bestows vision improvement through the application of a laser by restructuring the cornea and adjusting its focusing power. Since 1993, LASIK has been carried out in the U.S. on millions of patients with the use of a wide array of lasers. This process can be used to correct myopia or nearsightedness, hyperopia or farsightedness, and astigmatism or distorted cornea. There are at present more than a few diverse lasers that have received FDA permission for LASIK Eye Surgery. There are varied lasers for use in myopic and hyperopic patients, but most allow for rectification of astigmatism.
One of the extreme enemies of our eyes is the sun. Analogous to the skin, eyes are damaged by UV rays coming from the sun, whether it is a cloudy or a clear and sunny day. Sunglasses should at all times be worn in daylight hours when you are outdoors and you need to be sure that the sunglasses you select give UV ray shield. There are lots of sunglasses sold which are just tinted glass and do not really care for your eyes, they simply provide cover from the brightness. Take care of your eyes, we only got a pair.
